Weight Loss Hypnotherapist

What exactly is the role of the hypnotherapist in the weight loss hypnosis session? In this post, I take a closer look at what the defining role is for the hypnotherapist and some of what is done during a session of hypnosis for weight loss.

Initially, the hypnotherapist has to reassure the client that what will take place in the session is completely safe, natural and actually enjoyable from the aspect of the great feeling of relaxation and freedom from stress that a client will experience while in the hypnotic state. This is an important step to take because without that reassurance, it is quite possible for a client to feel overwhelmed by the whet they may see as an impending step into the unknown and there is nothing worse than the fear of fear itself.

The Session

So once the client is feeling that they are not about to enter the realms of the supernatural or occult in any way (you'd be surprised at just how many people still believe hypnosis to be some form of occult mind control), they can be taken into what is often an anticlimax of a plain office with nothing more elaborate than a comfortable reclining chair for the client and an equally comfortable office chair for the hypnotherapist! The absence of swinging watches and other Hollywood inspired paraphernalia can also come as something of a disappointment to many, although the very plainness and normal-ness of most hypnotherapist's consulting rooms is actually something of a calming aspect.

Chatting

An informal chat usually takes place here with the client reassured and relaxed while being asked a series of questions that will help the therapist to pinpoint certain areas that can be given extra attention to during the actual session of hypnosis. The more information the client can divulge of their lifestyle, eating and drinking habits etc, the better equipped the therapist will be to isolate certain factors that can be changed to bring about the necessary changes to the client's lifestyle in order to cause their weight to reduce.

Depending upon the answers the client gives and in the information about their life that the therapist is able to glean, the actual session(s) can go one of two main ways. Which depends upon whether the therapist determines that the client's weight gain is caused merely by social and lifestyle factors, which is the majority of cases, or whether there are deeper rooted reasons for the client's overweight state.

Buiding Rapport

The former will respond well to suggestion therapy to alter the client's actions and habits from bad to good while instilling a natural feeling that there is no need to eat so much food and to avoid bad, unhealthy or junk foods. You'd be surprised at how well this type of therapy can work and the very simplicity of it to change a person's relationship with food from one of "must eat everything in sight" to "don't really feel like eating that right now" and causing the body to naturally increase its metabolism to burn off the excess fat in order to reclaim its natural weight.

The latter is more difficult and while clients with deep seated psychological problems can still respond well to suggestion, often it is more important to get top teh root of the problem and remove the root cause, thereby removing the symptom which is overeating or comfort eating to overcome some psychological factor not consciously known to the client. This requires a technique known as hypno-analysis which uses psychoanalysis methodology combined with the relaxing power of hypnosis. For this, the hypnotherapist must be trained and qualified as a psychoanalyst as well as a hypnotherapist and it is well worth knowing that not all hypnotherapists train in this field.

I personally trained and qualified as a psychoanalyst in 1992, which is why I'm well aware of the difference.

The Hypnotic Session

The hypnotic session will follow and there the therapist will provide the necessary auto suggestions that will reframe the bad eating habits of the client to become good eating habits. The full process is quite involved and is therefore outside the scope of this article, so if you really want to know what actually happens at this point, you'll have to train as a hypnotherapist! That's because even going to see a hypnotherapist for this type of treatment, you will remember everything that happens during the session, but you won't be aware of the driving forces that are taking effect and why and how this happens and works.

Lastly, the most important thing anyone should know before visiting a hypnotherapist for hypnosis for weight loss is whether they are fully qualified and registered to a verifiable hypnosis association for the country they live in and that they carry full indemnity and public liability insurance to cover all instances of events that can occur when a member of the public visits any professional practitioner. I mean things like tripping over a step or slipping on wet tiles or anything else that could result in minor or major injury to the client in the physical world, of course!

One very successful option to avoiding surgery is Hypnotic Gastric Banding Therapy. The hypnotic gastric banding weight loss therapy takes you through the whole surgical process. Weight loss with the assistance of hypnosis is another option to the Gastric Lap Band Surgery. Hypnotic Gastric Banding with the assistance of hypnosis is pain free and also a safe way to have the surgery.
